Painters
Marketing for painters
Painting is the one trade where the before and after tells the whole story. Take both before you pack the brushes, and Mitch writes the post while you load the truck.
Painting is the easiest trade to compare and the hardest to tell apart. Every homeowner gets three quotes, the prep and paint list look similar on paper, and the price differences are small. What breaks the tie is who looks more reliable online, and that comes down to recent work and recent reviews.
Where painters lose the tie-breaker
Three quotes, one job
When prices are close, homeowners pick the painter whose profile shows recent work and recent reviews. A page with nothing new loses to a page with last week's job on it.
Great before and afters, never posted
You turned a dark, tired hallway around in two days. The photos are still in the camera roll.
The review ask goes out three weeks late
The customer loved it on the day. By the time you remember to ask, they have moved on and the lovely room is just their room.
An exterior repaint in Naperville
Imagine Maria's Painting, a two-crew company in Naperville, Illinois (a made-up business for the example). They repaint the exterior of a 1990s two-story colonial: scrape, prime, caulk, two coats, and a new door color.
The crew lead takes a before shot from the street on day one, with peeling trim and faded siding, and an after shot from the same spot on day five. He adds: "Full exterior repaint, scraped and primed trim, new door color, Naperville, five days."
The posts arrive about a minute later. Facebook gets the longer write-up and Instagram gets the before and after. The owner approves them that night, so the neighbors who watched the scaffold go up see the finish the same week.
On Local, the customer gets a review text two days later, after the crew has cleaned up the drop cloths and touched up the garage trim. Mitch drafts a reply that mentions the exterior and the door color.
What Mitch does for you
Before and after, written up
Send both photos and a line. Mitch drafts Facebook and Instagram posts built around the change, about a minute after you submit. You approve first.
Every job counts, even touch-ups
A single accent wall or a cabinet respray still makes a post. A calendar full of small jobs looks busier than a page that only shows the big ones.
Plan: Beating the other two quotes
Local ($189 a month) texts the customer 24 to 72 hours after the job, while the room still looks new, and drafts a reply to each review. It also posts to your Google profile. The text needs their mobile number and a consent tick. [How review requests work](/us/platform/reviews).
Plan: Found for "exterior painting"
Complete ($449 a month) adds a WordPress plugin with on-page SEO fixes, a blog page every week and local rank tracking. [Local SEO guides](/us/blog/local-seo).
Interior, exterior and the calendar
Painting follows the weather more than most indoor trades think. Exterior work runs from late spring to early fall in most of the country, with a rush when the temperature settles. Interior work fills the winter and picks up before the holidays, when people want a room finished before guests arrive. Commercial and property turnover work runs year-round.
The customer behavior differs too. Exterior customers care about prep. Cheap quotes skip scraping and priming, and they know it. A post that mentions the prep tells them you do it. Interior customers care about mess, cut lines and how long the house is disrupted, so a clean before and after matters more than a long caption.
Photo tips: a straight, well-lit shot of a room from the same corner both times, crisp trim lines at the ceiling, a front elevation from the street, a cabinet door at an angle that shows the finish. Skip photos with family pictures and personal items in view.
